Cruise Ship Lifeboat On-Load Hook Release Systems
IMO & SOLAS Regulations:

In an effort to prevent accidents with lifeboats, the IMO (International Maritime Organization)
mandated stronger safety guidelines for the cruise industry, expanding inspection, maintenance
and training requirements for all lifeboats and lifesaving appliances.

With this action the IMO (International Maritime Organization) mandated sweeping changes
to existing SOLAS requirements for cruise ships starting in 2006 with:

  • 2006 - MSC 1206 "Measures to Prevent Accidents with Lifeboats"

  • 2008 - MSC 1277 "Interim Recommendation on Conditions for Lifeboats,
Launching Appliances and On-Load Release Gear"

  • 2009 - DE52 "The Session of IMO Ship Design and Equipment Sub-Committee"

  • 2009 - MSC86 "Report of the Maritime Safety Committee on its Eighty-Sixth Session" –
Annex 15 (Draft Amendments to the International Lifesaving Appliances (LSA) code)

  • 2011 MSC.1/Circ.1392 "Guidelines for Evaluation and Replacement of
    Lifeboat Release and Retrieval Systems"

Cap Sante International has closely monitored the recent changes in the IMO regulations and
continues to be proactive in its approach to supplying the cruise industry with fully-trained service
